Rita Mancera
Executive Director, Puente
I am Rita Mancera Hernandez, born in Mexico City and raised in Baja California Sur. I began my non-profit journey in my teens, inspired by my parents' values of education, hard work, and community engagement. Early professional experiences with the YMCA of Mexico and the Latin American and Caribbean Alliance of YMCAs exposed me to social justice issues present in Latin America, while nearly 20 years in Pescadero, CA deepened my understanding and passion for advocacy and the need to help people advocate for themselves and organize to change their communities.
I collaborate daily with my dedicated team and board to lead Puente’s strategic vision and operational priorities. My professional goals focus on expanding educational opportunities, promoting local leadership, creating pathways to lasting economic and social well-being, promoting affordable housing and helping Puente achieve long-term sustainability.
My values align strongly with Puente’s mission to promote and advocate for equitable access to health, education and economic security. Puente focuses to serve those who live or work in the rural towns of Pescadero, La Honda, Loma Mar and San Gregorio in San Mateo County, primarily low-income households, farmworkers, first generation students, children ages 0-5, students in the local school district and seniors.
